Derry Magistrate's Court
Two sisters have been given probation for assault charge during a neighbour dispute.
Tiffany Barton (31) of Seymour Gardens and Samantha Barton (30) of Clon Elagh both in Derry admitted the assault that occurred on July 22 last year.
District Judge Conor Heaney said he had read the relevant reports and was aware of the facts of the case.
Defence counsel for Samantha Barton, Stephen Chapman, said his client had a relevant record but it was not extensive.
He said the incident involved a neighbour dispute and Samantha Barton at one point came out of the house with a baseball bat but this was quickly discarded.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan for Tiffany Barton said her client had no record.
She said in this dispute her client went to the assistance of her sister but there had been no incidents since the defendant was released on bail.
Judge Heaney said it was 'a very difficult situation' but not all the blame could be laid at these defendants door.
Samantha Barton was sentenced to 12 months probation and Tiffany Barton eight months probation.
