£250,000 fraud case involving Donegal woman adjourned at Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Magistrates' Court

A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with stealing from her mother.
Lisa Stokes (33) of Galliagh Park in Derry appeared charged with the theft of a mobile phone belonging to her mother on November 21.
She was also charged with two burglaries on August 21 and August 22 when a total of £1,100 was said to have been taken.
The court was told that on August 21 Stokes was alleged to have entered a property without permission and stolen £600 in cash.
She was then said to have entered the same property the next day and taken £500.
On November 21 Stokes was said to have entered her mother's house with permission but while there she was said to have stolen a mobile phone and her sister who was with her was said to have taken money.
During interview Stokes denied the theft and said it was a 'malicious' allegation following a family fall out.
The court was told that Stokes was on bail on charges of allegedly trying to bring drugs into Magilligan Prison.
Bail was opposed due to the risk of reoffending as the defendant has 45 previous convictions.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said the defendant had 'multiple records for theft' but the drugs case had been going on for some time.
Stokes was released on bail on condition she has no contact with her mother and will appear again on December 22.
