Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with 15 drug offences.

Jamie McCarron (32) of Slievemore Park in Derry was charged with a number of counts of possession of class C drugs and possession with intent to supply, as well as breaching his bail conditions.

On November 29, police responded to a call that McCarron was 'off his head' on drugs, covered in blood and threatening to kill himself.

He was also suspected of common assault against his brother.

Police were then told that McCarron's sister had been delivered a package with her name on it that she hadn't ordered containing 2500 class C pills, leading to McCarron being charged with possession and possession with intent to supply.

When interviewed, he told police that he was not aware of his brother or sister having anything to do with the drugs.

While searching his address, police found two mobile phones that McCarron then refused to give the PIN for.

Bail was objected to as he has 29 previous drug convictions and police have 'zero confidence' that he would abide by any bail conditions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that McCarron has clear addiction issues and could potentially be facing a lengthy time in custody while police attempt to gain access to the phones.

Bail was refused and he will appear again on December 11.
