Derry man charged in connection with serious police injury remanded in custody after refusing court appearance

A man who is charged in connection with an incident in which a police officer sustained a serious hand injury refused to leave his cell to appear in court and has been remanded in custody. 

Adam McMonagle (31) of Duncreggan Road in Derry was charged with assaulting police and non fatal strangulation of a female on November 29.

He was also charged with assaulting the woman, disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital on November 30, resisting and assaulting police and criminal damage. 

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and there was no objection to the case being dealt with in the absence of the defendant. 

There was no bail application and McMonagle was remanded in custody to appear again on December 18.
