The proposed planning application for purpose built student accommodation in the city centre has been welcomed by Derry City and Strabane District councillor Sandra Duffy (Sinn Féin).
"The proposed planning application for 553 bed spaces in purpose built student accommodation will be a game changer and a major step forward in our ambitions to expand our university to 10,000 students and beyond," said Cllr Duffy.
"Tackling regional imbalance is a priority for Sinn Féin and the Economy Minister's commitment to this alongside the Magee Taskforce is painting a clear roadmap that will transform our city to become a destination for students," she added.
"This proposed application demonstrates the increased confidence in the private sector that we are turning a corner when it comes to historical neglect of the north west and this is a direct result of the work of the Economy Minister and also the Magee Taskforce.
"We are witnessing a step change in delivery and Sinn Féin are committed to ensuring we continue to build momentum and deliver a bright future for all the young people of this city and beyond."
