Derry Magistrate'sCourt
A man who was released on Monday, November 24 after receiving a four months prison sentence for harassment among other charges has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with harassment again November 25.
Sean Deery (31) of Spencer Road in Derry appeared charged with one count of harassment that was said to have occurred on November 25.
The court was told that the alleged injured party was a next door neighbour and so there were problems with the address.
The court heard that at 5.21am the woman received a call allegedly from the defendant.
She ignored the call and there were further calls, eight in total, up until 7.25am.
When the woman answered Deery made what were described as 'nasty remarks' and said he was just out of Maghaberry Prison.
The court heard that Deery was 'highly intoxicated' when he made the calls and was 'remorseful'.
Defence counsel Michael Donaghy said that Deery was just out of custody and another problem was that he resided in the same building as the woman.
He said that Deery was 'totally contrite' and upset by his behaviour.
District Judge Ted Magill said it was 'pretty nasty' to get calls from someone in the same building.
He said it was 'extremely concerning' that someone would be charged with offences 24 hours after being released from prison.
He refused bail and Deery was remanded in custody to appear again on December 10.
