John Smith, Donna Richmond, Teresa McCloskey and Barry Kerr from Apex Housing Association launch the organisation's Energy Saving Week campaign, which includes an online quiz for tenants and residents
Apex Housing Association (Apex) is taking part in Energy Saving Week and is encouraging its tenants and residents to get involved.
Throughout this week, Apex will be sharing practical, easy to follow tips on its social channels to help households cut energy use, lower bills and reduce their environmental impact. A new quiz has also been launched offering tenants a fun and engaging way to test their knowledge on energy-saving practices, with the chance to win prizes.
Energy Saving Week in Northern Ireland is taking place from November 24 to 28, and is being led by the Energy Saving Trust and NI Housing Executive (Home Energy Conservation Authority), supported by various partner organisations like Apex.
Barry Kerr, Executive Director of Development at Apex, commented: “Our commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency and biodiversity has never been stronger.
"All new homes we’ve contracted to build since April 2024 are designed to achieve an EPC rating of A, while homes built under earlier regulations still meet high energy-efficiency standards.
"We are also working hard to upgrade existing Apex homes, investing in boiler replacements and better insulation for hundreds of homes each year. Energy Saving Week is an opportunity for us to highlight the work we’re doing whilst also empowering those living in Apex homes to reduce their energy use.”
Apex’s energy saving quiz is supported by the Department for Communities (DfC) and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme.
The Programme has its origins in the NI Executive Together: Building a United Community Strategy which reflects the Executive’s commitment to improving community relations and continuing the journey towards a more united and shared society.
Teresa McCloskey, Communities Manager at Apex, explained: “Energy Saving Week is an opportunity for us to provide our tenants with knowledge and tools to make a real difference.
"We want to help Apex households lower their energy use, reduce their carbon footprint whilst saving on their bills. Our new quiz adds an element of fun while reinforcing the importance of sustainability in everyday life.”
