The case of a serving police officer who is currently suspended who was due to contest six charges of fraud by false representation in relation to claims for overtime has been adjourned at Derry Magistrate's Court

Paul Melarkey (47) whose address was given as PSNI Knock Road in Belfast faces six charges of fraud by false representation that were alleged to have taken place on dates between February 10 2024 and December 31 2024.

The case was scheduled to go ahead on December 3 but at today's sitting defence counsel Kieran Roddy asked for an adjournment.

He said that it had come to light that further PSNI investigations were ongoing involving other individuals that could have implications for this case.

He said his client was currently suspended but had recently undertaken a training course for a career outside of the PSNI.

The contest date of December 3 was vacated and the case will be mentioned on that date for review.
