Derry judge hits out at court delays

Derry Magistrate's Court

A 25-year-old man has been fined and disqualified from driving after being detected driving at 112mph.

Stephen Magee of Arran Court in Derry admitted driving at that speed on August 12 this year on the A6 road near Claudy.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that it was a 'very high reading' which was why the court had asked for Magee to attend.

She said that the defendant was working and his job was in jeopardy if he were to lose his licence.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that at speeds like that Magee was danger to other road users.

She said there was no way round a disqualification in the case.

Magee was disqualified for four months and fined £200.
