Talk Money Week saw local organisations across Derry join forces to help people open up about money and make safer, more informed financial decisions.
The campaign aimed to break down the stigma around talking about money and highlight the free advice and support available across the city.
Throughout the week, a series of community awareness sessions were held in neighbourhoods including Skeoge, Springtown and the Bogside.
Groups involved included the Foyle Network Foundation, Skeoge Community Hub, Derry Credit Union, Pennyburn Credit Union, Waterside Credit Union, ASK Advice Services, Apex Housing Association, Dove House and Community Restorative Justice (CRJ), with the Consumer Council and Budget Energy also taking part.
At each event, residents were able to access practical information and guidance on a range of issues - from benefits and budgeting to responsible lending, credit union membership and energy-saving tips.
People had the opportunity to meet advisers and find out what help is available and start open conversations about their finances.
Speaking about the initiative, Karen Mullan from Foyle Network Foundation said the timing of the sessions was particularly relevant as the festive season approaches.
She said: “With Christmas approaching, the pressure on household budgets is only going to increase. It’s vital that people know where to turn for advice and that we start the conversation around money before problems escalate.
“Talk Money Week is a great opportunity to bring local organisations together and show the support that’s already here in our communities.
“Sometimes people don’t realise what’s available - whether it’s advice on benefits, budgeting or help to reduce and manage bills - and these sessions give everyone a chance to find that out in a relaxed, friendly setting.
“This week’s events are just the beginning of a series we’ll be running in the lead up to Christmas, a time when finances are stretched for many families, so having open conversations about money and getting the right advice early on can really make a difference.
“The response already has been brilliant. People appreciate being able to drop in, talk to someone face to face and get practical information they can take away and use straight away.”
