A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with a number of driving offences while on bail for similar charges.

Oran McGlinchey (20) of Clon Elagh in Derry was charged with, between November 1 and 3, driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

The court heard police were out on patrol when they initially noticed a car that appeared to speed up upon seeing them, driving at 80mph in a 40mph zone.

Police turned on lights and sirens and began to pursue the vehicle that the court heard continued to drive in a dangerous manner through a number of roundabouts.

Eventually, police pulled up alongside the vehicle after McGlinchey had been overtaking other cars as he headed towards the border.

Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that 'the seriousness of the situation had passed over' McGlinchey's head, telling the court that it appeared that a plea will be made.

Bail was refused and he will appear again on November 27.
