In a fresh appeal for blood donations, Councillor Aisling Hutton, Chairperson of the Council's Health Committee, has urged residents people in the city to support upcoming autumn blood donation sessions.

Cllr. Hutton stressed the critical importance of a stable blood supply for local hospitals, highlighting that demand for transfusions can be especially high during the autumn and winter months

"Blood donation is very important for the proper delivery of health care. Each year thousands of patients require blood transfusions in our hospitals, because they are undergoing surgery, recovering from cancer or have been in a serious accident.”

Cllr Hutton continued: "There is a lot of pressure placed on the Blood Transfusion service particularly over the autumn and winter months.

“They have said that the need for blood is constant, with hundreds of patients in the north needing transfusions each week, but at this time of year it can be particularly difficult to maintain their blood stocks.

"I would urge anyone who can, to go along to the blood donation session in Derry at the Carlisle Road Methodist Church on Monday, November 10 (13:00 to 20:00) and Tuesday, November 11 (12:30 to 19:30).”
