Two events to mark fifth anniversary of the passing of John Hume to take place

The John and Pat Hume Foundation is organising two events to Remember John Hume – A Titan of Peaceful Change, on the fifth anniversary of the passing of John Hume: Nelofer Pazira-Fisk on Truth to Power: The Legacy of Robert Fisk on Saturday, August 2 at 5pm and Special Showing - John Hume Ireland’s Greatest on Sunday, August 3at 5pm.

Tim Attwood, Foundation Secretary said: “The cross-community John and Pat Hume Foundation was formed not just to protect a legacy of peerless service by John and Pat but to promote the lessons of peaceful non-violent change.

"It is our duty to keep faith with the John and Pat Hume’s principles, keep their dream alive and inspire current and emerging courageous leaders for peaceful change who will chart a better way forward and build a more peaceful, just and prosperous future for all our children.Nelofer Pazira-Fisk will discuss her experience completing her late husband Robert Fisk’s book Night of Power: The Betrayal of the Middle East on Middle Eastern politics, his legacy as a journalist and shares her reflections on how Western mainstream media reports on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Nelofer Pazira Fisk has written that ‘John Hume’s brave vision is needed right now in the Middle East’.

"Miriam O’Callaghan will present the RTE documentary John Hume Ireland’s Greatest. In 2010, RTE ran a series of documentaries, where viewers voted to choose the greatest person in the history of Ireland.

"John Hume was voted Ireland’s Greatest, following Miriam O’Callaghan’s documentary which presented the case for John Hume which she said, ‘finally acknowledging his great achievements and sacrifice.’“

Miriam was very close to Pat Hume. Miriam conducted a beautiful and heartbreaking interview with Pat Hume in 2015, on Sunday with Miriam, when Pat Hume spoke for the first time about John Hume’s struggle with dementia.”
