Sectarian graffiti has been daubed on walls in Currynierin

Police received a report of sectarian graffiti at Ardmore Road, in the Currynierin area of Derry on Sunday, June 29.

It is believed that the graffiti was sprayed on a fence in the area sometime overnight.

Enquiries into the incident, which is being treated as a sectarian hate crime, are ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, or who has any information which could assist, is asked to contact police via 101, and quote reference number 444 29/06/25.

A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

On a post on its social media page, Currynierin Community Association wrote: "Sectarian graffiti isn’t culture — it’s intimidation. These markings don’t honor identity; they enforce fear and division. We deserve streets that reflect hope, not old hatreds."

Waterside SDLP councillor Sean Mooney said: "This graffiti last night clearly expressed a mindset from those pushing this intolerance. Last week was Ivy Mead, last night was Curryneirin. These communities don’t want this behaviour, they just want to live in peace, it should stop."
