Templemore Sports Complex proudly hosted pupils from Greenhaw Primary School for a fun and educational swimming session as part of RLSS UK’s Drowning Prevention Week.

The school was invited to this special event after winning a poster competition designed to raise awareness of water safety.

The poster competition encouraged students to creatively promote vital messages about staying safe around water.

As part of their prize, students enjoyed a free water safety session at Templemore Sports Complex, which included interactive activities and tips on how to stay safe around open water this summer. The event aimed to equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to enjoy water safely.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, said: “We are thrilled to support RLSS UK’s Drowning Prevention Week and to welcome Greenhaw Primary School to our centre. The children’s enthusiasm for learning about water safety has been fantastic.

"Drowning Prevention Week is RLSS UK’s national campaign to help families enjoy water safely. With drowning being one of the leading causes of accidental death in children, initiatives like this highlight the importance of education and awareness.”
