All Saints Clooney Cub Scouts embark on coastal adventure in Castlerock

The young adventurers of All Saints Clooney Scout Group's Cub Pack recently enjoyed a thrilling two-day camp at Castlerock, packed with exciting activities and invaluable learning experiences from June 14-15.
The eagerly anticipated camp kicked off with an exciting journey as the Cubs, accompanied by their leaders, travelled from Derry to Castlerock using Translink services. The train journey itself added an extra layer of adventure, setting the tone for a memorable weekend.
Upon arrival at the Castlerock Scout Hall, the Cubs wasted no time diving into a range of engaging activities. The beautiful Castlerock beach became their outdoor classroom for the day, where they honed their observational skills with scavenger games and developed their navigational abilities through practical map work.
A highlight of the camp was a fascinating talk from the RNLI lifeguards. The Cubs learned about beach safety, the role of the lifeguards, and how to stay safe while enjoying the coast – crucial knowledge for young people growing up by the sea.
As evening fell, the traditional campfire provided a warm and cheerful focal point. Cubs and leaders gathered to sing classic campfire songs and showcase their talents with a hilarious sketch show, fostering camaraderie and creating lasting memories.
"We had to adapt our annual Cub camp under canvas this year and the format in Castlerock was an incredible success," said Carol Mooney, Group Scout Leader for All Saints Clooney Scout Group. "The Cubs absolutely loved the beach activities, the Clydesdale Horse show that happened to be beside us and the chance to learn from the RNLI. Travelling by train added a fantastic element to their adventure, and we're so grateful for the support from 1st Castlerock Scout Group that makes these experiences possible."
The camp concluded on Sunday, June 15 with all the Cubs returning home with new skills, stronger friendships, and a host of unforgettable stories from their coastal adventure.
