Man charged with 35 historical sex offences returned for trial

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victims in the case, was charged with 17 counts of indecent assault on two different females on various dates between 1978 and 1988

A man with an address in London has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a series of 35 historical sex offences. 

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victims in the case, appeared by Sightlink for a Preliminary Inquiry at Derry Magistrates' Court. 

He was charged with 17 counts of indecent assault on two different females on various dates between 1978 and 1988.

He was also charged with 8 counts of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency, three counts of gross indecency with a child, three charges of rape and five of attempted rape.

All of the charges were said to have occurred between July 2, 1978 and July 14, 1988.

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. 

The man said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage. 

He was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on August 19 and released on bail.
