A memorable charity football match took place at Limavady Showgrounds on Tuesday, May 13, in support of Foyle Hospice, featuring a unique clash between Limavady Legends team and a Derry City Legends side.
The match was spearheaded by local sports author Gerry Robinson, a dedicated supporter of Foyle Hospice through his book sales, in collaboration with renowned football figure Geoff Ferris and team managers Neil and Martin Mullan.
On a sunny evening, fans from both sides came out in strong numbers to support the cause and enjoy the rare encounter between the two veteran teams.
The entertaining match ended in a thrilling 4–4 draw with Limavady's goals from Chris Moore, Brian McLean, Stuart Mullan, and Blaine Morrison.
For Derry City, Ryan Coyle and Gareth McGlynn found the net, with Harry McCourt scoring twice.

Gerry Robinson, who co-organised the event with Geoff Ferris, expressed his delight at the community’s enthusiastic response to the fundraiser:
“Limavady Showgrounds hosted the big charity fundraising football game between Neil Mullan’s Limavady Legends and Martin Mullin’s Derry City Legends.
“The game was played by two attacking, talented and equally matched teams.
“A beautiful early summer’s evening attracted a large crowd with a family orientated atmosphere.
“The match officials did a stellar job and the crowd were treated to some exhibition football culminating in a feast of goals.
“The game resulted in a 4-4 draw and £1600 was raised in aid of Foyle Hospice, fund-raising representative Ailbhe McDaid was in attendance.
“Once again, the Limavady public must be commended for their generosity.
“A big thank you to Derry City for travelling down to Limavady Showgrounds and participating in a very sporting game!
“A special thanks to Geoff and Karen Ferris, Neil and Ciara Mullan, Colin Wallace, Ken Lowry, Joe Mullan, Marty Woods, Michelle Brolly, Ailbhe McDaid at Foyle Hospice, everyone at Limavady Showgrounds and our photographer Nigel McFarland, for making the game a standout showpiece and resounding success!”
Gerry Robinson extended heartfelt thanks to Geoff Ferris, Neil Mullan, Felix Healey, and Martin Mullan for their vital roles in organising the friendly match between the neighbouring teams.
He also expressed gratitude to Ciara Mullan for her support with catering, as well as Karen Ferris, Colin Ferris, the match officials, and all those who contributed to making the event a success.
The Limavady Legends, managed by Neil Mullan, put in a strong performance to earn a 4–4 draw against the Derry City Legends, who were guided by Martin Mullan.

The match was expertly officiated by seasoned referees Marty Woods, Ken Lowry, and Joe Mullan, whose professionalism ensured the game ran smoothly and remained enjoyable for all.
Irish League icons Felix Healey and Geoff Ferris, both of whom have also represented Northern Ireland, took to the pitch once again - Healey for Derry City and Ferris for Limavady, adding star power to the occasion.
The charity match proved to be a resounding success, raising valuable funds for Foyle Hospice, with discussions already underway for future sporting events in support of the cause.
