Caoimhinn McConnell (32) of Glenowen Park in Derry admitted resisting police on May 24 last

Man (39) charged with a series of offences at Derry court

A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court for what a solicitor described as 'not the most serious incident'.

Caoimhinn McConnell (32) of Glenowen Park in Derry admitted resisting police on May 24 last.

The court heard that the defendant walked past police and told them to 'f--k off'.

He then did the same again and on a third occasion despite being warned about his behaviour.

He then told police 'f--k off what are you going to do about it?'

McConnell was arrested and he 'tensed' his body before being taken to the ground.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had only been released from Maghaberry Prison some days previous but fortunately had stayed out of trouble since then.

McConnell was given 18 months probation.
