A woman will be sentenced in May after she admitted a charge of wasting police time by making an allegation of sexual assault.
Lisa Sheriff (34) of Duddy's Court appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with one count of wasting police time by making a false allegation of sexual assault against a man.
The court heard that the defendant initially called police on February 4, 2023 to report that she had been sexually assaulted by a third party.
At the time, she refused to make any further statements and and the allegation was denied by the accused.
Later, Sheriff contacted police and admitted to lying about the alleged assault, telling them she was angry with the accused and wanted to get money.
Defence solicitor Shannon Doherty said that the accusations of sexual assault were 'very serious' but added that Sheriff was 'vulnerable' and asked for a pre-sentence report.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that either the defendant was 'an evil, malicious person' or a vulnerable individual who had been taken advantage of.
He ordered pre-sentence report and Sheriff will appear again on May 9.
