Derry has reason to celebrate as two local artists were honoured at the 2024 Credit Union Art Competition.
Katie Bradley, representing Derry Credit Union, won the Age 11–13 category, while Tori Cassidy, also from Derry Credit Union, triumphed in the Age 18 category.
Katie’s artwork captured the theme “The Joys of Life” with creativity and depth, showcasing her exceptional talent and earning her national recognition. Similarly, Tori’s piece stood out for its artistry and profound interpretation of life’s simple pleasures.
The competition, which attracted over 30,000 entries, highlights the vibrant artistic talent within the Derry community. Their success has brought immense pride to their families, the local area, and Derry Credit Union. The grand final, held at Croke Park, was a special event celebrating creativity, where Katie and Tori’s artwork was recognised alongside other national winners.
ILCU President Martin Busch applauded the talent on display, stating: “The creativity and imagination shown by participants this year are nothing short of extraordinary. The Credit Union Art Competition is not just an event but a platform for young people and communities to showcase their creativity. The credit union movement has a longstanding tradition of fostering the arts and ensuring they remain a vibrant part of Irish life. By providing opportunities to engage with art, credit unions empower young creators to express themselves and enrich the cultural fabric of their communities.
Martin Busch continued: “Through their artwork, these talented individuals have captured the very essence of life’s greatest joys. Their creations remind us of the importance of appreciating the little things that make life special. A huge congratulations to our winners and every entrant who participated in making this competition a true celebration of creativity and community.”
