Two men charged in connection with discovery of New IRA linked AKM rifle to face preliminary enquiry

Two men charged in connection with the discovery of a firearm, which police have linked to the New IRA, will face a preliminary enquiry next month.

Martin Burke (60) of Lone Moor Gardens and Patrick James Collett (56) of Rossnagalliagh both in Derry are charged with possessing an AKM 7.62 rifle with intent to endanger life on May 21 last year.

They are also charged with possessing the same weapon in suspicious circumstances on the same date.

At today's sitting of Derry Magistrates' Court a prosecutor told the court that a date could be fixed for a preliminary enquiry (PE). 

A date was fixed for February 26 for a PE and both men are on continuing bail.
