Traffic is currently backed-up at Altnagelvin Hospital

Heavy snow showers has caused traffic congestion across Derry.

Traffic is currently backed-up at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Heavy traffic has also been reported in the Crescent link, Strand Road, Culmore Road and Creggan Hill areas of the city.

A number of vehicles have also been abandoned in the Southway area of Creggan.

Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy urged the public to "stay put for the foreseeable".

Yellow warnings for snow and ice are in place for Derry until 11am on Tuesday.

People are being warned of the potential for some disruption to travel while the cold weather continues.

Rain, sleet and snow showers will continue during Monday night leading to a risk of icy stretches, the Met Office said.
