Derry's Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin is once again loosening the veil between this world and the next, with a programme of events that explore the ancient Gaelic roots of Halloween this Samhain between October 28-31.

From their cabaret event, “a decadent feast for all of the senses… with seasonal fare, music, and song”, to Irish language horror film screenings (with English subtitles), to family fundays featuring storytelling and traditional music and crafts, the programme ensures something for everyone.

Eibhlín Ní Dhochartaigh, artistic director of An Chultúrlann, said: “It goes without saying that Derry is renowned for its Halloween celebrations, so we’re incredibly excited to once again be able to bring our own unique slant to the festival.

"This will be our third year of programming a series of events that digs into how Halloween can be traced back to our own Gaelic customs, and share the many ways we can each engage with and celebrate this rich heritage.

"On the evenings where what divides this world from the other is at its thinnest, join us in taking a look beyond, and come along for an event or two.”

You can also expect a ‘Spooky Tunes’ trad Irish music session (with prizes for best dressed), as well as a Halloween Disco, for all the young guys, girls, and ghouls, with proceeds going towards their youth club.

The full programme and tickets are now available through their website at www.culturlann.org, with principle support from Arts Council NI, Derry City and Strabane District Council, and Foras na Gaeilge.
