St Columb's School of Music will be kicking off Culture Night with a night of music and an opportunity for potential new choristers to watch the current choirs perform at 7.30pm in St Columb's Cathedral on Friday, Septembers 20.
Nicky Morton, Organist and Director of Music at St Columb's School of Music said that the opportunity to join the boys and girls choirs was open to all faiths and none, the only thing a new recruit needs is an interest in singing.
Saturday will provide an opportunity from 1-4.00pm for new recruits to receive a brief introduction and workshop into what being a chorister entails followed by a tour of the Cathedral and the school of music which are both in close proximity to one another.
There will also be an interactive fundraiser held on the day and interested recruits will then have their first performance in the Cathedral as choristers.
Sunday will present a third opportunity for potential new recruits to come and listen to the current choristers though this time the performance will take place at a traditional Sunday service at the Cathedral.
Afterwards, there will be tea, coffee and refreshments as parents can sign their sons and/or daughters up for the boys' choir or girls' choir.
Louis Fields, founding director of St Columb's School of Music said that the school are looking to recruit boys aged seven to fourteen and girls aged seven to sixteen to the Cathedral Choir.
Membership is free and brings many benefits such as television and radio appearances as well as summer tours abroad within Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The choir rehearsal for girls takes place on Wednesdays after school from 4.00-5.30pm and rehearsal for boys takes place on Thursdays after school from 4.30-6.00pm.
Both rehearsals take place at the Cathedral and all are welcome.
