A Derry man caught driving at 145km/h in Donegal has been fined €400 in court.

Martin Gallagher was clocked driving a white BMW X5 at 145km/h at Bohillion, Burt, on June 16, 2023.

Garda Thomas Duggan told Buncrana District Court that he was operating a speed check at 9.54pm when he made the detection in a 100km/h zone.

The driver identified himself as Martin Gallagher.

The defendant, a 44-year-old of Palace Street, Derry, did not appear in court.

Garda Duggan said he showed Gallagher the speed gun and a fixed charge notice remained unpaid.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said she found the facts proven in Gallagher's absence. Gallagher was convicted and fined €400 with five months to pay.
