Food Village resolution found

A resolution has been reached that will allow local vendors to trade at this weekend’s Maritime Festival unimpeded.

A number of local businesses, under the LegenDerry Food Group umbrella, were set to make up the Food Village at this weekend’s eagerly awaited festival, however traders said access to the Food Village along the quay at Rockmills had been restricted due to a fun fair setting up in the vicinity.

It is now believed that a solution has been reached.

One of the local vendors, Offing Coffee shared an update on their social media platforms to say a resolution has been reached to allow the local traders to move in and set up for tomorrow.

Derry and Strabane District Council provided a comment on the resolution.

A spokesperson said: "Following several site meetings along the Quay today officials from the Council have successfully reworked and designed the site layout to accommodate all the traders that had signed up for the Legenderry Food Festival.

"Despite the ongoing challenges around access to a pre-arranged designed space for the traders, Council is currently proceeding to build the Food Stalls at this site to ensure all the traders are facilitated.

"The stalls will be built in keeping with all food safety and health and safety requirements and to ensure there is no negative impact on their business. The site layout has been revised to ensure that the only impact will be the loss of some public seating and recreational space. While this is unfortunate it was the only way to facilitate all traders and adhere to health and safety.

"The Council is grateful to the traders for their understanding of this complex situation and is confident they will have a busy trading experience over the coming days with local and visitors alike coming out to support their businesses during the Foyle Maritime Festival."

Fundamania has been approached for comment.
