A jury has been sworn in at Derry Crown Court in the case of a man facing a charge of the murder of equestrian Katie Simpson in August 2020.
Jonathan James Cresswell (36) of Briar Hill Gardens in Greysteel outside Derry is charged with the murder of Katie Simpson on August 9 2020.
He also is charged with one count of rape on dates between August 2 and August 4 2020.
Today a jury of 8 women and 4 men was sworn in to hear the case which is being heard in Derry Crown Court sitting in Coleraine beginning on Tuesday April 23.
The trial is expected to last between 4 to six weeks and the jurors were told that there could be in excess of 60 witnesses for the prosecution.
The court heard that there are three equestrian centres that will feature during the trial, one on Donegal and two in the North.
The court heard that the deceased woman was originally from Middleton in County Armagh but had been living in Donegal near Derry.
The case will begin on Tuesday April 23 in Coleraine.
