Kate Nash, Chair of the Bloody Sunday March Committee
The chair of the Bloody Sunday March Committee has slammed the PPS decision not to prosecute former soldiers investigated for perjury.
In 2010, Lord Saville's report into Bloody Sunday stated some soldiers had knowingly put forward false accounts.
On Friday, the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) said there was "insufficient" evidence to prosecute 15 former soldiers and one former member of the Official IRA.
The Bloody Sunday families were informed of the decision on Friday morning.
Kate Nash, Chair of the Bloody Sunday March Committee said that the decision not prosecute the former soldiers "shows yet again that Lord Savile’s report cannot be taken as the last word on the Bogside massacre".
She said: “The top Bloody Sunday liar, Michael Jackson, hasn’t even been considered for prosecution. still doesn’t rate a mention in any of the pronouncements of the British political or military leaderships. He lied and lied and lied again, but still hasn’t been given a slap on the wrist, even as the families have repeatedly been given a slap in the face.
“The thugs who pulled the triggers took their lead from Jackson who, after Bloody Sunday, rose to the very pinnacle of Britain’s army. The message to the paras was – Well done!
“We shouldn’t be surprised. The British Army has been rampaging across the world for centuries and hasn’t changed or been made to feel any need to change.
“The main reason the British Government refuses to tell the full truth about Bloody Sunday is that they feel it may be necessary in their own interests to launch a murderous assault against some other community at some other time. They are addicted to murder.
“Many still campaigning for truth are the grandsons and granddaughters of those who fell and those who were with them on the day that they fell.
“If it takes another generation, so be it. We won’t allow their lies to pile up and cover up the mass murder in the Bogside. We won't let the killers button their lips and slink away.
“Come next January 2nd 2025, Derry will march again and will again shout out not just to our own people but to all who have suffered and died at the hands of imperialist armies around the world.
“They strive to protect the Bloody Sunday killers while cheering on the perpetrators of genocide in Gaza. They haven't learned a thing.
“But if they think that they have worn us out, we will make them think again.”
