Derry Council seeking representatives to join Tourism Strategy Working Group

Derry City and Strabane District Council is inviting private sector representatives within the Tourism industry to help inform the delivery of the district-wide Tourism Strategy.

Representatives will act on behalf of the sector to oversee the implementation of the strategy and support the development of any new emerging strategies, in partnership with other strategic stakeholders including Tourism NI.

The current strategy, Derry City & Strabane District Council Tourism Strategy – A New Level of Ambition 2018-2025, sets out priorities and activities with the aim of increasing visitor spend to £100 million and create 1000 additional jobs in the sector by 2025.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Patricia Logue, encouraged members of the local private sector with an expertise in tourism to consider putting themselves forward for the role.

“The knowledge and experience that private sector members can bring to the group is invaluable. This expertise is what we will use to help us deliver on the existing strategy and as we plan our future strategic approach to Tourism development across the city & district, and I would encourage anyone who feels they fit this profile to get in touch.”

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the outgoing private sector representatives of the group for their contribution and commitment to the development and implementation of the strategy to date.”

The development of the strategy was an action identified within the overall Strategic Growth Plan which highlights tourism as a key sector for economic growth and job creation and was developed following extensive consultation with tourism partners and stakeholders across the city and district.
