Flags erected in a play park in a Drumahoe housing development have been removed
Flags erected at a Derry play park have now been taken down.
A Union flag was erected in the play park in the Beech Hill View housing development in the Drumahoe area of the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Confirming the removal of the flags, SDLP Waterside councillor Sean Mooney said: “These flags went up in the area overnight into Sunday ahead of a community fun day in the play park. SDLP representatives were then contacted by a number of local residents who were upset that they had been erected in a shared space as an attempt to intimidate people living in the area.
“Myself and fellow councillor Martin Reilly made representations to the local housing developer, police and others to have these flags taken down and I’m glad to say that they were removed earlier today.
"This is a positive outcome, but these flags never should have went up in the first place and the people behind this do not speak for the local community in this area.”
