Derry man returned for trial on a series of sex charges

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a series of sex charges.

Colm Quigley (20) of Swilly Gardens in Derry appeared at a preliminary enquiry at the local Magistrate's Court today.

He was charged with one count of rape of a female that was said to have occurred on August 7 2020.

He was further charged with attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault and one count of attempting to choke the same female on the same date.

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.

Quigley said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage.

He was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on April 15 and released on bail on condition he does not have any contact with the alleged victim in the case or any prosecution witnesses.
