Fire Service dealing with fire at former Derry school

The Fire Service are currently dealing with a fire at derelict premises in the Waterside area of the city.

The fire broke out on the site of the former Lisneal College on the Drumahoe Road on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service said: "NIFRS have been in attendance since 8.17pm on Sunday, 3rd March 2024.

"The fire is in two storey section of the building.

"There are currently 50 firefighters in attendance along with seven pumping appliances, one aerial appliance and a command support unit.

"Operations will continue for some time, and local residents are advised to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed while the incident is ongoing.

"Firefighters are working as quickly as possible to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe."
