Men’s Action Network, a leading non-profit mental health organisation dedicated to promoting male mental health and well-being, announced today the need to scale back its services and appeal for funding for its crucial community services.
After serving the local community for 29 years, the charity is facing severe financial challenges that threaten its ability to continue providing essential support for male mental health.
Over nearly three decades, MAN has been at the forefront in tackling mental health issues affecting men within our community. By offering a range of programmes and initiatives, the charity has helped countless individuals and families navigate mental health challenges, offering support in a safe and supportive environment for those in need.
Unfortunately, due to a decline in funding sources and increased operational costs, MAN finds itself in a critical situation that requires immediate attention. The charity relies heavily on generous donations from individuals, businesses, and funding bodies to sustain its operations and continue making a positive impact on the mental well-being of our male community members and their families.
"Since our inception, MAN has been committed to addressing and supporting the mental health needs of men and providing them with the necessary support to lead fulfilling lives," said Chris Kerr the Manger of the charity. "However, without the necessary financial resources, we are at risk of having to scale back our services, and consider closure in the near future, leaving a significant gap in the mental health support system for our community."
“Would also appeal to our local politicians to come and meet with us and discuss how we can plan for a future for our charity and listen to our impact. We are frustrated at the lack of government which adds to the lack of funding opportunities and ultimately adds to the lack of provision that our charity has offered in the past to impact upon lives in a positive manner”
John McAtamney, Chairperson of MAN: “Since its inception, MAN has been a bacon of hope in our community for countless men seeking support for their mental health. We have worked tirelessly to provide counselling, programmes and create safe places for those engaging with us. Evidence exits within our business case that for every £1 invested in our charity we save society £10, whilst changing and saving lives”
“The decision to scale back our services was not taken lightly, but rather as a result of a combination of factors, including declining funding sources, rising operational costs, and a challenging economic landscape. Despite the dedication and tireless efforts of our staff and volunteers, the financial constraints are becoming insurmountable, leaving us with no choice to take these drastic measures. If we don’t source sustainable funding in the immediate future, we are looking at closure”
“This will have a devastating blow to the community and highlights the critical need for continued support and investment in male mental health services. Mental health challenges among men remain a pressing issue, and the scaling back of this vital resource will leave a significant gap in the support network available to them”
MAN is urgently appealing to all members of the community, local businesses, and philanthropic organisations to consider supporting their efforts to continue providing vital mental health services.
By contributing to the charity, donors will help ensure that individuals facing mental health challenges receive the care, guidance, and resources they desperately need and deserve. Any donations can be made via their website www.man-ni.org
