Sinn Féin to host 'Building a Stronger North West' conference for local business leaders

Former Sinn Féin Finance Minister Conor Murphy MLA and the party’s Deputy Leader in the Dáil, Pearse Doherty TD will be meeting local business leaders at a major conference in the north west this week.

The ‘Building a Stronger North West’ conference is being hosted by Sinn Féin to give local businesses a chance to engage with the party’s leadership.

Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Ciara Ferguson said: “We are delighted that Conor Murphy MLA and Pearse Doherty TD will be addressing this important conference focusing on building a stronger North West economy and promoting regional equality.

“We have huge potential in the North West but our economy, our infrastructure and even the social and political fabric of this region have been hugely damaged by partition, historic discrimination and ongoing negative British Government policies that have brought us Brexit and savage austerity cuts to public services.

“Our natural hinterland in Donegal has also suffered greatly as a result of decades of under investment from disinterested governments in Dublin."

She added: “In the north, we want an Executive back up and running, delivering new political leadership, particularly within the Department for Economy, and grasping the opportunities created by the protocol.

“In the South, we want to lead a government that gets to grips with the crisis in housing and healthcare while ensuring that the economic wealth now enjoyed there is utilised for the best interests of all citizens, including those people and places which until now have been left behind.

“Those are the opportunities that now exist and with the conversation about Irish reunification growing every day, the fact is that we will soon face a once in a lifetime chance to reshape our economic, social and political realities for the better.

“There is no doubt that Conor Murphy and Pearse Doherty will be key figures in that process so we very much look forward to this event with local business leaders as part of an ongoing engagement as we take this crucial work forward to rebuild, reshape and strengthen the North West.”
