A date will be set at Derry Magistrate's Court on August 24 for the contest involving a man on animal cruelty charges.
Peter Toland (29) of Cornshell Fields in Derry has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an American Bull Terrier dog on March 15 this year.
He also faces 4 charges of failing to take reasonable steps to ensure animal welfare was met on the same date.
Today a defence solicitor said that his client's barrister could not attend court but asked for an adjournment until August 24 to allow the barrister to be present.
He said that on that date a date could be fixed for a contest in the case.
Toland is currently on bail on the charges.
