Derry Court: Jail for Woman (36) caught on CCTV stamping on man's head

Court Gavel

A woman has been jailed at Derry Magistrate's Court today for what a judge described as 'horrendous behaviour' after she was seen on CCTV stamping on a man's head.

Natassja Young (36) with an address in the Waterside area of Derry admitted the offences which occurred on May 9.

The court heard that two men could be seen fighting in John Street and we're in the ground.

Young could be seen kicking the injured party on the head and stamping on him on numerous occasions.

She was described as 'the most aggressive' in the group.

When arrested she told police she had been out for a walk and saw her friend who was another one of those involved in the incident.

She said she was trying to prise the men apart using her feet.

Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that the only issue was how long the custodial sentence would be.

He said her behaviour was 'appalling' but said that it was 'out of character' for her.

Deputy District Judge Liam McStay said that Young was fortunate not to be before the Crown Court.

He said he had viewed the CCTV and Young quite clearly stamps on the man's head.

He sentenced Young to 6 months in prison.
