A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with possessing a knife and a hammer in a public place.
Gary Smith (41) of Westland Street in Derry appeared charged with 8 offences including possessing a hammer and a knife in a public place on June 30.
He was also charged with assaulting three people on the same date, one charge of disorderly behaviour on the same date and two charges of criminal damage to a police cell on July 1.
A police officer connected the accused to the charges but said that he believed he could be managed on bail with strict conditions.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said said that he believed it was an appropriate case for bail.
Smith was released on bail on condition he does not go within 100 metres of an establishment in William Street, has no contact with the alleged victims in the case, observes a curfew from 10pm until 7am and does not consume alcohol.
He will appear again on July 31.
