A woman who was attending a formal in Derry and became separated from her friends 'foolishly' decided to drive the local Magistrate's Court heard today.
Catherine McFaul (21) with an address at Drumcroon Road in Coleraine admitted one charge of driving with excess alcohol on May 25 this year at the Culmore Road.
The court heard that police observed a vehicle at 5.15am 'veering' across the Culmore Road and stopped it and McFaul was driving and failed a preliminary breath test.
She was arrested and an evidential breath test revealed a reading of 74mgs, more than twice the legal limit.
A defence solicitor told the court that her client had become separated from her friends and not knowing the area had been using her phone to try and find her way.
She had become anxious and made the decision to drive her car.
McFaul was fined £125 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
