'The Spice Girls' . . . . close friends Teresa Duffy, Lorna Goudie, Stephanie Laird and Annette Russell
A determined group of ladies, known as “The Spice Girls” joined thousands of other females involved with the Female Walk/Run event last Sunday.
Dressed in colourful pink wigs and fun accessories to represent female power, close friends Teresa Duffy, Lorna Goudie, Stephanie Laird, and Annette Russell were all participating for a good cause.
Teresa was taking part for the very first time in memory of her sister-in-law Linda Carson and her friend Janet Norris who she said received incredible support at Foyle Hospice right up until her death.
Linda Carson was diagnosed with Bile duct Cancer last June and died peacefully at home back in January.
Linda was a mother of one daughter and a retired lecturer who had worked in Downpatrick for many years.
Teresa recalled her sister-in-law’s personality saying: “She was a very outgoing person and always jolly – nothing was ever a bother to her and she never complained about anything.”
According to Teresa, her friend Janet also received top quality care as a patient at Foyle Hospice.
“She was in remission from breast cancer but unfortunately was given the news that she had lung cancer.
“She loved having fun and was always up for a laugh!
“She loved taking part in fundraisers and being involved in community events – we both took part in the Shipquay Street slide event for Cancer Research UK back in 2014.”
Teresa believes that everyone should take part in the Foyle Hospice Female Walk/Run if they can.
“I wanted to give something back to Foyle hospice in memory of Linda and Janet.
“It’s such a worthy cause and a great route, it really isn’t difficult at all.
“There is such comradery and we were talking to other ladies taking part and it was lovely to be there.
“If you have good company, it’s even better!”
