When police stopped a car in Newmarket Street in Derry on June 10 they found a quantity of cocaine and a cutting agent Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

Dylan Farren (27) of Westway in Derry appeared charged with a total of 7 charges.

He is charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply on June 10, being concerned in the supply of cocaine on dates between October 31 last and June 10.

He was also charged with possessing cocaine and cannabis on June 10 and possessing cocaine with intent to supply on the same date.

Farren is also charged with driving while unfit through drink or drugs on June 10 and being concerned in making an offer to supply cocaine on dates between October 31 last and June 10.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.

He told the court that police believed Farren was involved in the supply of illegal drugs in the city.

The court heard that police stopped a car on Newmarket Street at around 6.30pm.

Farren was driving and there were two other people in the vehicle.

Police said that they could smell cannabis coming from the vehicle and a deal bag containing 3.5grammes of cocaine was located.

Two mobile phones were seized and police believed one of them was 'covered in cocaine.'

One of the passengers had a sum of money on him and police believed he was going to buy cocaine.

Police also located £255 in the car as well as 50 grammes of a cutting agent.

The officer said that the defendant was 'an Uber cocaine supplier' and there was a high risk of re-offending.

The court heard that Farren had a drug addiction and a gambling one as messages indicated he had lost £3,000 in one day on gaming machines.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client accepted his drug usages among a group of friends and other addicts.

He said he had sought to deal with his issues and was willing to re-engage.

The solicitor said that it would be well into next year before this case is dealt with. Deputy District Judge Sean O'Hare said there were concerns about re-offending and refused bail.

Farren will appear again on June 29.
