Derry Court: Man (37) admits harrassment charge on his ex-partner

A judge at Derry Magistrate's Court has asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on a man who admitted a charge of harassment on his ex-partner.

Niall Morrow (37) of Slievemore Park in Derry admitted a charge of harassment on dates between February 11 and February 13 2023.

The court heard that on February 13 police attended an address and spoke to the injured party.

She told them that her former partner, Morrow, had sent her text messages which were 'upsetting'.

The woman said that Morrow had also tried to phone her on four occasions and she had refused to answer.

The court heard that the accused had activated an old Facebook account in order to contact the woman as she had blocked him on all her social media accounts.

At interview Morrow accepted the language wasn't 'pleasant'.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had nothing for the past ten years.

District Judge Oonagh Mullen said that the charge of harassment was 'serious' and what was concerning in this case was the quantity of the messages.

She said that she wanted more information and asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

The case was adjourned until July 28 and a Restraining Order for a period of 3 years was imposed.
