Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a man tried to get into the Strand Road PSNI Station and invited officers to go for a drink.
Michael Anthony Cullen (38) of Drumleck Gardens in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour on April 14 this year.
The court heard that at 9.30am a police patrol was approaching the station and saw the accused approaching the gates holding a can of cider.
He was waving his arms about and tried to follow the police vehicle into the station.
Police officers stopped him and noticed the smell of alcohol on him.
Cullen repeatedly talked of going for a drink despite being warned about his behaviour.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that he should have known that police officers on duty could not go for a drink.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said there was 'no malice' in Cullen's actions and he was 'more of a nuisance'.
She said her client was in breach of a suspended sentence.
Judge McElholm said that there was nothing sectarian or abusive in what Cullen was doing.
He imposed a fine of £100.
