Man arrested after stolen lorry crashes into PSNI vehicle on Lifford Bridge

A man is in PSNI custody after a lorry, reported as stolen in Donegal, evaded Gardai in Lifford and crashed into a PSNI vehicle

A man is in PSNI custody after crashing a lorry, which was reported stolen in Donegal, into a police vehicle on Lifford bridge.

The driver failed to stop for Gardai at the Lifford side of the bridge at around 8.40pm on Thursday.

A large presence of both Gardai and PSNI officers were located in the area at the time.

The articulated lorry drove towards Strabane and failed to stop for police

During the course of the incident, the lorry collided with the back of a parked police vehicle causing some damage.

It is understood that no officers were in the vehicle at the time.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and handling stolen goods. He remains in custody.

Inspector James McLaughlin said: “As enquiries continue, and as we liaise with An Garda Síochána, we're appealing to anyone who captured dash cam footage to call 101 and quote 1894 23/02/23.

The incident came just 24 hours after off-duty PSNI DCI John Caldwell was shot at the Youth Sport Omagh sports complex.
