Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how police came upon a man throwing a bar stool onto the road.
Patrick McGranaghan (37) of Strabane Old Road in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour and assault on police on December 31 last.
The court heard that police were on patrol on the Strabane Old Road and observed the defendant throwing a bar stool onto the road.
He was seen to be bleeding and police asked what had happened to him and asked him to get off the road and he refused.
When an officer tried to get out of the vehicle McGranaghan prevented him by blocking the door all the while he was shouting and swearing.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client had no 'recollection whatsoever' of the incident as he was 'very drunk'.
He said his client was 'mortified' at his behaviour and had no idea as to why he was throwing the barstool and wished to apologise for his behaviour.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said it was clear McGranaghan had taken 'too much alcohol' and behaved in a way he normally wouldn't.
He fined him a total of £600.
