A Derry man has appeared in court charged in connection with an incident in Strabane in which six police officers were allegedly assaulted.
Joseph O'Kane (21) of Stoneburn Place in Derry was charged with seven offences including disorderly behaviour, multiple assaults on police and resisting police.
All of the offences were said to have occurred on February 11.
A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.
The court heard that police were on patrol in the vicinity of Castle Place in Strabane.
They came across a group of males and stopped to check on their welfare as O'Kane had a cut above his eye.
The court heard that the males were 'evasive' with their details and they began 'wrestling' with each other.
They were warned about their behaviour and when police went to arrest O'Kane he allegedly 'lashed out at police'.
The court heard that the defendant was said to have kicked out, spat at officers and bit others before limb restraints were placed on him and a bite guard used.
Bail was opposed due to the fear of further offences and the court heard that the defendant has 32 previous convictions.
District Judge Ted Magill granted O'Kane bail on condition he resides at an address approved by the PSNI, observe a curfew and does not take any alcohol or non prescription drugs.
He will appear again next month.
