Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a man who was on bail with a no alcohol condition went into to Strand Road PSNI Station under the influence.
Dean Elliott (25) of Duddy's Court in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail on February 4.
The court heard that Elliott attended the police station as part of his reporting conditions and it was noticed he seemed to have taken alcohol in breach of his bail.
He failed a breath test and was charged with breaching bail.
A police officer told the court that the defendant had breached bail on numerous occasions since being charged in November.
He told the court that police had 'no confidence' Elliott would abide by his bail conditions.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had 'a terrible problem with alcohol'.
He said his offending was 'alcohol centred' and added that on this occasion there had been no further offences.
The solicitor said that someone walking into a police station while under the influence 'tells you all you have to know.'
District Judge Barney McElholm said that it was 'scandalous' there was no facility where he could remand this man where he could receive treatment.
He said if bail conditions were not enforced it was 'making a joke of the court.'
Elliott was remanded in custody until February 9.
