The man who police were performing CPR on when they were allegedly attacked in Strathfoyle last week has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Eoin Gorman (32) of no fixed abode is charged with four burglaries in the Strathfoyle area on February 2.
He is also charged with an attempted burglary on the same date and aggravated vehicle taking again on February 2.
A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.
He told the court that police received reports of various houses in the Strathfoyle area being burgled and various items taken including cash, cards and collector items 50p pieces.
CCTV showed two males in the area trying doors and breaking in to premises.
In one case they were said to have stolen a red Volkswagen car which was later found in the Temple Road area.
When police came across the two males Gorman was unconscious due to what is believed to have been a drug overdose.
Police were performing CPR when they were allegedly assaulted by the other accused who was remanded in custody on Saturday.
While police were at the scene it was said they found many of the items stolen in the burglaries were found on the other defendant.
Bail was opposed due to the fear of re-offending and the officer said Gorman had 'numerous convictions' for drugs.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that he believed that the CCTV was 'not great' but the officer said that the defendant could be identified.
District Judge Barney McElholm released the defendant on bail on condition he observed a curfew from 7pm to 7am, signs with police daily, has no drugs or alcohol and does not enter Strathfoyle.
He will appear again on March 2.
