A new Site Supervisor Academy has been launched in Mid Ulster to support experienced construction workers to progress into supervisory roles and achieve the qualifications required for the updated CSR (Construction Skills Register) Gold Site Supervisor Card.

The programme is being delivered by Training Solutions NI, in partnership with the Mid Ulster Labour Market Partnership (LMP), led by Mid Ulster District Council as part of the Department for Communities’ Employability NI programme.

Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.

Site supervisors are required to hold an NVQ Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Construction Site Supervision to obtain or renew a CSR Gold Card. This Academy will support participants to meet that requirement and progress into supervisory roles within the construction sector.

Applications are invited from individuals living in the Mid Ulster District Council area who work in the construction sector and wish to progress into site supervisory roles. Current and aspiring supervisors, including micro-business owners and those ready to advance within larger organisations, are welcome. Employers are also encouraged to nominate staff.

Places are strictly limited to six participants and are available free of charge: The Academy will support six participants from the Mid Ulster area to:

  • Complete the NVQ Level3 Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction)
  • Undertake the CSR 4-Day Site Safety for Supervisors Course
  • Prepare for the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Supervisor Test
  • Receive support to apply for the CSR Gold Site Supervisor Card

The programme will run from April to June 2026 and will combine classroom learning with practical, work-based assessment.

Speaking about the new academy, Deputy Chair of the Council, Councillor Denise Johnston, said: “Mid Ulster District Council warmly welcomes the launch of the Mid Ulster Labour Market Partnership’s new Site Supervisor Academy, an important initiative that will support experienced construction workers to take the next step in their careers. This programme not only creates clear progression pathways into supervisory roles, but also helps participants gain the qualifications required for the updated CSR Gold Site Supervisor Card.

“By investing in the upskilling of our local workforce, the Academy is strengthening the construction sector across Mid Ulster and ensuring it continues to meet industry standards and future demands. It is particularly encouraging to see opportunities being created for those already working in the industry to build on their experience and move into leadership positions.

“This initiative reflects the strong partnership working in Mid Ulster and our shared commitment to supporting people, businesses, and economic growth across the district. We look forward to seeing the positive impact the Site Supervisor Academy will have for participants and the wider construction industry.”

Anthony Quinn, Chair of Mid Ulster Labour Market Partnership (LMP), added:“This Academy will provide a valuable opportunity for local construction workers to progress into supervisory roles and gain the qualifications required under updated industry standards. It supports both individual career development and the ongoing skills needs of the construction sector in Mid Ulster.”

Managing Director Training Solutions NI, Drew Davis commented: “Training Solutions NI is pleased to deliver this Academy in partnership with Mid Ulster Labour Market Partnership. With extensive experience in CSR Site Safety and supervisory NVQ delivery, we are focused on supporting participants to gain the skills, confidence, and qualifications required to step into site supervision roles and achieve their CSR Gold Card.”
