Sinn Féin MLA Emma Sheerin has welcomed the Department for the Economy’s commitment to deliver on its energy targets.

The party’s local economy spokesperson made the comments following an Audit Office report into the department's green energy strategy.

“Meeting our climate change targets and building a cleaner, greener environment must continue to be a priority for all parties and we must redouble our efforts to meet these targets,” said Ms Sheerin.

“While it’s important to note the Executive was down for two years of the implementation of this strategy, since taking up office Sinn Féin ministers have sought to deliver real change.

"A number of green energy projects have progressed over the last 18 months, and decarbonisation is a core pillar of Minister Archibald’s economic vision, including the Renewable Electricity Price Guarantee (REPG) scheme, which will deliver more stable energy prices for consumers.

“I look forward to the upcoming mid-term review of the strategy and to working with the minister to meet our climate targets and capitalise on the huge potential of green energy.”
